"My Love's Devine"

By Tilden Corbett

How will she ever know
Who my heart beats for?
When my mouth don’t show
What my heart surely shows?
I clothe my woes
Through creative prose
And divulge a glimpse of my soul
Only to show that I love her so.
As ticking time pounds,
The seconds are crowned.
As simple as it sounds,
The minutes are found.
Mr. Moon goes through phases.
Father time has seen these cases.
Brother sun don’t know what to do.
Will sister cloud allow brother to shine through?
Miss tulip blossoms so fine;
But too short is her time.
Seasons change with perfect pitch and timing
So shall I too make moves on time.
Unlike the Mr. Moon and Miss tulip,
My time is uncertain.
But what is certain
Are my movements and wording.
Though courageous is this move
That I make for you,
Pure and true
Is my love for you.
Not another dawn will climb
Over the hill of mine
Without me spilling these lines;
For my love is divine.

"Imagine"

by Tilden D. Corbett

Come and imagine with me...
...a place not so distant nor resistant
but so innocent
So complacent and resilient;
a harmonious world of enchantment
A people so peaceful and spirited each having irrefutable substance
Living as one - apparently inherent throughout the planet
A nature so immaculate and loud with beauty for miles
Nothing foul within Earths’ child as Earths’ child stands proud
Viral resistance; a blessing surely heaven sent
Nothing so malignant that nature couldn’t fix
Cultures so virtuous and resourceful to say the least
Never to be out of sync; always sharing with and aiding the weak
Knowledge and wisdom so advanced and so brilliant
Never to allow this liberty to engulf the inhabitants
A place so splendid; so wonderful; so magnificent
Come and imagine with me a place not so distant.

“That Which Gives Me Joy”

By Tilden D. Corbett

What gives me great joy?

It is an invitation to immortality…
What better reason to live.
Its worth is immeasurable…
But what better criteria to measure a man.
Peace will be still…
Is there a greater high?
It is a trait of angels…
What greater sense of fulfillment.
It is a quality that brings worlds together…
Its power is incomprehensible.
It is a gift in itself…
All other noble acts will pale in comparison.
It is done willingly and without expectations…
What will bring a greater sense of hope.
It is an attribute of God himself…
So seas will bellow and mountains will move
…and mercies will shower down.

It is the act of giving that gives me great joy!

“Shine”

By Tilden D. Corbett

The struggle to find purpose leads to and through joy and despair.
Will all that engulf the world yield, in time, no peace of mind?
Will time tell of a past so great and fulfilling?
Or of a past not worthy of reflections?
The twinkle of stars are more evident in the night skies.
So should not you shine bright in darkness?
His grace shall prevail with cures for all life’s transgressions;
and all lessons will become blessings.
So seek He and you will find…
that you will be fine…
and shine bright in all His glory!

“You Stole My Heart”

By Tilden D. Corbett
For Edith

I didn’t know you were a kleptomaniac.
Like a good thief in the night, you always came back.
So deliberate in your steps since the day we first met.
All these years I’ve known you, this knowledge I’ve lacked.

Before you, true love I’ve never known.
No care in the world… no one to call my own.
The days so ordinary… my heart so alone.
Now I’d climb mountains to be your very own.

It’s been said that, “With love comes mourning…
So be careful what you yearn for.”
And that, “The heart is a delicate organ…
So be careful whom you’d bleed for.”
And that, “Love is patient and love hurts”
But with you, I’d experience pain… to hurt no more.
And that, “Love can be tempered when stirred”
But only strengthening our love when merged.
And that, “Love can be maligned at times”
But, I tell you, love is the cure… time after time.
And that, “Love can be feared and, many times, blurred”
But my love is here… and clear for sure.

Some loves are washed away…
Like the high tide does footprints in the bay.
But this love, I must say,
Has been strong for you… always.

So I say again, I didn’t know you were a kleptomaniac…
Until, when we gave vows, and began a new act…
Until, my heart began to swoon this way…
Until, the very first day… you stole my heart away.

But a thief, you no longer need to be…
For I’m giving you both my heart and the key.

"My Best Yet"

By Tilden D. Corbett
For Jeremy, Amber, Christian, & Brittany

Whatever I do, I will do better each day
Pushing forward in this journey; as I find a way
But, the way I find, the world may forget
When darkness consumes light, will I have given my best yet?

I will learn to live so I can live more freely
I will learn to give so I can give more easily
We all have a life but who truly lives?
We all have gifts but who truly gives?

I will learn to see with open eyes
I will learn to kneel with sacred cries
Seeing without prejudice and suspicion
Adequate faith yielding devout convictions

I will learn to be forgiving and forgive with integrity
I will learn to smile; thus, flaunting the best of me
Courageous it is to forgive but surely the way to go
A smile can bring healing to all hurt souls

Whatever I do I will do better each day
Doing more, seeing more, and being more in every way
The world will stand amazed at all the records I set
Like another dawn, I will rise to put forth my best yet.
